ACE BIO series

Updated: Jun 7, 2020

Hi, I am a recent university of Toronto graduate. I did the cDAT this previous November, and I received a score of 25 on my biology section. I am here today to tell you how to ACE the Bio section.

So, when I was doing my Canadian DAT exam, the biology section was rough. The questions were nothing like what I had studied before from any of the resources which included basically all of them (lol), DAT bootcamp, DAT crusher, Destroyer, Kaplan, and Princeton. The questions were based on applying knowledge, and the questions did not even have a specific answer like what is the cell wall of a gram (–) bacteria made of? It was more specific like you had to have knowledge of Hershey and chase experiments which I learnt in biochem – and the question asked “which of the following isotopes can be used to detect presence of only nucleic acids in Linens?” Like WTF are linens???!! the thing is you had to know Linens are a species of bacteria and not fungi to be able to answer this question. If you didn’t, (like most of us), you were basically screwed as fungal cell walls have nitrogen and you cannot use nitrogen as the isotope. What I am trying to get at, is that this one question had 5 more questions in it. BUT the funny thing is, like sad funny, the questions that I had practiced with didn’t have the complexity of these types of questions, and I could barely finish those on time, imagine trying to finish this one, on time!! All in all, I am stating that the questions which you will be likely to study off of, are not what you will see on your cDAT.

So, if you now know this, you won't panic on your DAT exam, and this is the reason I am doing this blog. As I see that all these businesses are trying to profit off of our desperation and do not even provide us with our money’s worth. The main part of my disappointment was DAT crusher, the questions were so trivial compared to the actual cDAT questions and the fact that they stated it is specifically designed for the cDAT was total bullshit. The DATBootcamp content were so off base as it should have been and I should have known since it is designed for American DAT, duhh!!! I want all students to know what I now know after doing the cDAT twice. You need to prepare your knowledge in application based questions, and not memorization based questions. This is key to scoring high on the cDAT. I will go further in detail on how you can do that in my following posts, I want to gut this open. I will be going over each chapter of bio and providing you with the resources you need to Ace the cDAT.
